Shannon West has started a new “movement” to bring birthdays back. She decided that Facebook and other social media web sites have ruined birthdays because it is easier to write Happy Birthday to someone on Facebook instead of sending them a card. She is right! I would much rather have a birthday card sent to me than see birthday wishes on Facebook. I bet the majority of you would too so I am joining her with “#Imbringingbirthdaysback”.
I made this birthday card using a stamp set from the 2016 Occasion Catalog called Number of Years. This stamp set also has a set of matching Framelits called Large Numbers and you can not only save 15% by buying them both in a bundle but you are just $.75 away from getting something free from the Sale-a-bration Catalog. If you look closely, you can see I added a little sparkle to the numbers using the Wink Of Stella in clear.
I know this set is a little pricey but I think you will use it for years to come! You can use it for birthdays, anniversaries and graduations. You never have to buy another year stamp set (such as 2016). It comes with some flowers, a banner (which is awesome) and all the needed ordinals (th, st, etc). If you buy anything from Stampin’ Up!, you need to buy this set.
Buffy is part of a group of very talented artists that design for Craft Project Central. She was telling me the other day about the sketch challenge they host on their blog so I decided to take a look. This is what this month’s challenge is:
I thought it was kind of a cute sketch so I made a card using it.
I realized after I made this and took the picture that I forgot to add a couple of things to my card that were in the sketch challenge but I am hoping that is ok.
I used the stamp set called By The Tide. It is a set that has been around a while and I hope it stays for a while longer. It is a great set for making a masculine card. The Designer Series Paper I used is called Going Places and is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog. Lastly, the “happy birthday” stamp is from the February Paper Pumpkin kit. It just happen to fit perfectly in that spot.
You can check out the other creations on Craft Project Central HERE.
It is that time again for another Stamp Off Challenge. This time we had a color challenge which I presented to Buffy and Jackie. One of the things I love about our little threesome is we all get along so well. Although Buffy is more vintage, Jackie is more modern and I lean towards CAS (clean and simple), we can still agree on challenges to do. Recently we had a discussion about the various Stampin’ Up! colors. I like the Brights with Bermuda Bay being my all time favorite. Buffy likes the Subtles and Neutrals with Blushing Bride being her favorite. Jackie doesn’t like So Saffron, Sahara Sand and Smoky Slate but I love all of them. We do agree that none of us like Always Artichoke! Even though we are all so different, we can still have fun. Why am I telling you all of this? I gave us a color challenge to do knowing that not all of like all of these colors but we all like at least a couple of them so we can handle the rest.
Here is my card:
I used a stamp set out of the 2016 Occasions Catalog called A Nice Cuppa. It is the cutest set that revolves around tea. Plus it has matching Framelits and you can save 15% buy buying both. I made the background out of cardstock scraps. It was a good way to use up all those little pieces I have hanging around. I embossing each of them using the Chevron Embossing Folder. I do have to say, this card involved math so if you don’t like math, don’t make it. I had to figure out the sizes of the squares to make it all even.
Now go check out Buffy’s blog HERE and Jackie’s blog HERE to see what awesome things they made using this color combinations.
Stampin’ Up offers a monthly subscription to a kit called My Paper Pumpkin. Sometimes the kit contains cards. Sometimes it is a 3D item. You never know until you receive the kit. It is like getting a surprise every month. It only cost $19.95 (plus tax) a month. Shipping is included in that price.
This month was a really cute kit. You could make 9 cards (3 each of 3 designs) and it included the cutest envelopes. There was a set of stamps, some sequins and a Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Spot. It didn’t take very long to put together either. If you are a beginner stamper or you don’t have a lot of time to put together cards, My Paper Pumpkin is for you. You can click here to sign up. During Sale-a-bration a three month subscription is $5 off and it qualifies you for a free Sale-a-bration item!
Here is a video Stampin’ Up! made showing how to put this cute kit together:
I absolutely love this set of Framelits called Botanical Builders. It is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog. The reason I love this set is because of the leaf die that goes across the page. I just think it is beautiful. This set of Framelits also has a set of matching stamps called Botanical Blooms and some matching Designer Series Paper called Botanical Gardens and you can get a 15% discount by buying all three items in a bundle. The best part of that is you can get something free some the 2016 Sale-a-bration catalog if you buy that bundle!!
I actually didn’t use the matching stamps for this card. Instead I used a sentiment from another stamp set that is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog called Rose Wonder. That set has some beautiful sentiments in it that can be used for sympathy cards.
I was reading a post a couple of weeks ago where someone talked about taking an online watercolor class for card makers and thought that might be interesting. Although I have never been very artisiic, I thought that might be fun, Actually I don’t have an artistic bone in my body. When I took art class in high school (it was required), I figured out that if you ask the teacher questions on how to draw or paint something, she would come over and do it for you. I made it through the whole semester that way. I think she may have caught on by the end because I ended up with a C in that class. At least I passed! I
n any case, I decided to sign up for this online class. It is actually a lot of fun. The class took place in 2014 so I missed out on all the giveaways, forum conversations and sharing my creations, but I am really glad I signed up for it. They use various artists to show you different techniques. Of course, these artists make it look so simple. So far I have gone through the first two classes which were on watercolor backgrounds. By the way, in case I forget later on, here is the link for these classes. Check it out. You have access to videos and PDF’s for life so you can go back for ideas later on.
So here is my first watercolor creation.
I used a stamp set from the 2016 Occasions Catalog called Helping Me Grow. I actually bought this set specifically for this technique. The colors I used are Cucumber Crush, Bermuda Bay, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point.
