Special Reason

I was just starting to play with this stamp set called Special Reason when I found out it is retiring on May 31st.  It has a set of matching dies called Stylish Stems, which is also retiring.  This set is different then the usual flower sets.  A couple of the dies actually cut our the negative image of the flowers instead of the positive image.  I didn’t use those dies in this card but you can see how they work in this video.

Stylish Stems

My oldest sister has a son who is getting married in May.   My sister is what you would call a free spirit.  She loves nature, she is an awesome cook, she meditates and takes care of herself.  She makes me very proud.  Anyway, she and her husband are responsible for the rehearsal dinner.  Instead of doing the normal invitation she asked me to make her some random cards to use.  The reason I am telling you this is because for the next couple of weeks (at least) you are going to see some of the cards I have been making.  They are invitations so you won’t see any birthday or thank you cards (although this could be used as a birthday card too).

I used a set of Framelits called Stylish Stems to make this card.  These Framelits do have a matching stamp set but I didn’t use it in this card.  I thought the sentiment “celebrate” would be a good one for the invitation.  I got that stamp from the stamp set called Birthday Bright.  This set actually matches a card kit but I just loved the set I decided I could use it with other projects.

Stylish Stems And Free Glimmer Paper

Edit:  I have to apologize about this post.  I had to do a bunch of posts early because Rob was scheduled for some surgery.  This was written before the Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack was sold out.  You could still make this card using Sweet Sugarplum card stock and it would be just as pretty.  Please accept my apologies.

There are only ten more days left for Sale-a-bration.  Last month, Stampin’ Up! added three new products to the free items you can earn.  One of these items is the new Glimmer Paper Assortment Pack.  The colors in this pack are gorgeous.  You get four sheets of Bermuda Bay, Sweet Sugarplum and Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper.  It is just gorgeous and is my favorite Sale-a-braiton item.  You can get this pack for FREE with a qualifying purchase!

I made this card using the new Sweet Sugarplum Glimmer Paper.  It is hard to catch on camera, but the sparkle is amazing.  I also used new stamp set called Special Reason on this card.  It has a set of matching Framelits called Stylish Stems.  These Framelits are different than normal Framelits.  Instead of cutting out a shape, they cut out the inside of the shape.  I cut out the flower using these Framelits and then cut around the flower using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  They are not in any  catalog right now but are available for purchase.

Stylish Stems

Stylish Stems, Birthday Bright, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

Stylish Stems is one of those sets of Framelits that you might overlook when you first see it.  I get it.  We already all have a lot of dies that cut out beautiful flowers.  I thought the same thing at first.  Then I watched the video that Stampin’ Up! made about this set (which I have posted below).  It is nothing like the other dies.  It doesn’t cut out the flowers.  It creates a negative image of the flowers and stems.  It is very cool.  Watch the video and you will see what I mean.

Don’t you just love it?!?  It is so different than what we usually have.  I love that Stampin’ Up! comes out with these fresh ideas.  It also has a matching stamp set called Special Reason and you can save 10% by purchasing both in a bundle.  I just cut out the flowers and stems and then adhered the colored card stock behind the images.  The stamp set I used is called Birthday Bright (my new favorite birthday sentiment set!).
